Main

Step 3: upload files – After completing Step 1 and Step 2, the next step is to move the files from your desktop computer to Survey-Hosting.com. When you click on the link marked “Open upload window”, the web browser launches a new window that you can drag-and-drop the files into. It may take a few moments for this window to open while it is connecting to Survey-Hosting.com.

What you see in the upload window depends on which web browser you use. Usually, it will just show a blank white screen. At this point, maximize the project file folder created in Step 2. Select ALL of the files in the project folder, and drag them into the middle of the upload window. Most web browsers show a progress indicator while the files are moving from your computer to Survey-Hosting.com. How long it takes for the files to transfer depends on the speed of your internet connection and the amount of traffic on the internet. Average size projects typically take less than a minute to upload. When the upload has finished, all of your project files will show in the upload window.

At this point, you should close both the upload window and the project file folder since they are no longer needed. Note that some web browsers have been set up in a way that does not allow you to drag-and-drop files into the upload window. Some settings can be adjusted to allow this, and Survey-Hosting.com has an alternate uploading option (via FTP program) that may be used when your browser is not able.

Step 4: activate survey Clicking on the ACTIVATE link moves your files out of the Upload window and into the active portion of your account. Make sure the file upload in Step 3 is finished before activating your survey. If some of the project files are missing, you will see a warning, and may need to repeat steps 2 and 3 if your files were lost somewhere along the way. What if the ACTIVATE link isn’t shown? Survey-Hosting.com prevents you from activating surveys if there is no space available for the new survey. You won’t be able to activate a survey if:

  • Your account already has the maximum number of surveys allowed.
  • There is a live survey with the same name as the survey you are trying to activate.
  • There are files for more than one project in the upload window.
  • The project in the upload window does not have all of the necessary files.
  • If your account is full or the project name is already in use, you will need to delete a live survey to make space for the new survey. Surveys can be deleted from the Data menu. If you need to run more surveys, additional space can be provided by contacting sales@survey-hosting.com .

    Step 5: live surveys

View survey - Click on the SURVEY link to preview your live survey. Access the full link, or Web URL for your survey from the Links menu. Summary Stat. Report - When your project includes a Summary Statistics report, click on the REPORT link preview the report. Access the full link, or Web URL for the report from the Links menu. Clicking either the SURVEY or REPORT link will open the item in a new browser window. Close this new window when you are finished reviewing the survey or report.

    Links

Survey URL – This is the web address of your survey that you will distribute to participants. Copy and Paste this address into your email message or on another web site to give people access. You can also access the survey by going to “account_name”.survey-hosting.com/”project_name”.html. However, if you’re using any of EZSurvey’s advanced options such as respondent tracking or password-only access, you will use the Survey URL shown here.

Report URL – When your project includes a Summary Statistics report, this is the web address of the report. You can distribute the Report URL to people so they can monitor the data as it is collected.

    Data

Data (Right-click and choose "Save As" to download) - This is a link to the file that holds all of your survey data. You will need to download the data before importing it into EZSurvey.

To download the data, right-click on the file link. The right-click menu will show an option for saving the file. Depending on which web browser you are using (Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape, or others) the menu will say “Save As”, “Save Target As” or “Save Link As”. These are all equivalent. When you click on “Save As”, you will be prompted to save the file to your computer.

If you have to choose a file type to save it as, choose “All files” or “text”. Choose the folder you want save the data file to. Usually it’s a good idea to save it in the same place as your survey form, or you can make a “data” folder in “My Documents” to hold all of your data. After the data is saved on your computer, you can import it into your EZSurvey project by choosing “utilities ? import web data” in the Form editor.

Delete this survey – Clicking on the icon in this column will remove your survey project from survey-hosting.com. If there is an archived data file that has the same as the project you want to delete, you need to delete the archive file before you can delete the existing survey. When you delete a survey project, the data file is saved to the archive. This is done to help you avoid losing a data file if a survey is accidentally deleted before. The archive isn’t meant for long term storage of your data. Download archive data the same way as you would download a regular data file. You can delete archive files by clicking on the Delete icon next to the archive file name.

Data Archive – Whenever you delete a survey, the web data (.asc) file is automatically copied to the archive. This reduces the chance that you will accidentally lose data that you haven’t yet downloaded. The archive isn’t meant to be a long term storage space for your data. You should download data files to your computer and delete the copy in the archive as soon as you have imported the data into EZSurvey.

    Images

The image management screen allows you to upload images to use in your surveys. Images are shown in thumbnail view along with the image names. The image management screen allows you to upload images until you have the maximum allowed. Standard hosting accounts allow up to 5 images, and these images can be used in any survey you have in your account. Image size is limited to 100KB each. The limit is needed to ensure that each Survey-Hosting account uses a reasonable amount of storage space. Extra space may be provided for customer projects that require more than 5 images or require images with a file size larger than 100KB each. Image types that you can upload are JPEG and GIF. Other types, including audio and video files, can be enabled for customers that need them. Bitmap images (.BMP) are discouraged because they are uncompressed, and use a disproportionate share of the resources.

The image screen also allows you to upload HTML and ASC files, as long as they don't have the same name as a file already in your account. Contact support@survey-hosting.com to enable alternate image types. Some requests may require renting of additional space.
